This conference seeks to explore the social and political relationships that characterise tourism in the early 21st century. Among key questions are: how does the new security environment and its attendant risks affect tourism? How can leisure interest groups make their voices heard? From a social perspective, does it matter how tourists behave when they are on holiday? How do issues of class, race, age and gender affect access to tourism? Is tourism a new form of imperialism or not? Can access to tourism be made fairer?
